Welcome to the OPC Page

for the Cornish Parish of Padstow
Hello! My name is Jennifer Maxwell, and I'm the Online Parish Clerk (OPC) for Padstow. I want to thank Philip Green for all his work on the Cornwall OPC Padstow site before me, and thank all the Cornwall Online Parish Clerks for their collective work in putting together and transcribing the wealth of information on the Cornwall OPC database. It's a remarkable resource! With the assistance of the OPC network of researchers and resources, I've been able to trace my ancestors in Cornwall back to the sixteenth century, and I'm pleased to be in the position to help others who are searching for information on their families in the Parish of Padstow.
I've been working to educate myself about Padstow, and find myself more and more intrigued and interested by all that I'm learning. For those of you who have grown up in and around Padstow, the information that is so new and exciting to me may well be things that you've known your whole life. However, I'm hopeful that there may be something in the "eyes of a newcomer" that may reacquaint you with the area of your birth, and give you a renewed appreciation for the history and culture of Padstow. And for those of you who are just finding out about your family ties to Cornwall, I hope that you will get a sense of what seems so neat to me about Padstow! I welcome any additions or corrections, and I can be reached by email at [email protected]
The text and photos on the following pages (St. Petroc, Padstow celebrations, and the River Camel Estuary) are all directly copied from a variety of sources including wikipedia. Citations for all of the text are included along with citations for the photographs used through the creative commons agreement for non-commercial usage. Even though this information is already available on-line, I like having it in one place. I encourage you to do more extensive research and reading on any of the topics of interest to you!

The web address is: http://www.mccarthyindex.org/ He is currently asking people to identify his collection of old Cornish photographs via his Facebook page called "Unidentified Cornish Photos" at: https://www.facebook.com/taclowcoth?fref=ts
Some lovely early photographs of Padstow (circa 1904-1905) can be found at the Yelland Photo Collection at http://st-issey-folk.co.uk/opc/yelland.php The Yelland photographs on the St Issey Folk website are reproduced from the Kresen Kernow website at https://kresenkernow.org/SOAP/detail/0d25f62a-3f16-4d85-abf8-02a0f71c7552/?tH=%5B%22yelland%22%5D "Photographs taken by Albert Henry Yelland, born Trevorrick, St Issey, 1866, while Inland Revenue officer at Padstow, mostly c1904-1905" (www.kresenkernow.org, Albert Henry Yelland collection).
